Fondazione Umberto Veronesi was established in 2003 on the initiative of Professor Umberto Veronesi with the aim of funding medical and scientific research for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. To address the ongoing challenges in medicine, the Foundation selects the most promising researchers and finances innovative projects that ensure a rapid transfer of research results to clinical practice. In addition, the Foundation promotes prevention campaigns and initiatives to educate the public on health and healthy lifestyle habits.

One of the areas where this commitment is particularly urgent is childhood cancer: every year in Italy, over 1,400 children and around 800 adolescents receive a cancer diagnosis. Thanks to advances in research, average survival rates for children and adolescents have risen from about 30% in the 1960s to around 80% in the last decade. This is an important milestone that shows how much progress has been made—but it is still not enough. To develop increasingly effective therapies and ensure better care for a larger number of patients, it is essential that research continues to move forward.
